Shamlan Al Masoud, BME

Sham is pursuing his Master’s of Music in Conducting under the direction of Dr. Bradley Genevro here at the University of Texas at El Paso.  Sham is a graduate of Del Valle High School and holds a Bachelor’s Degree of Music Education from New Mexico State University where he learned trumpet from Dr. Ken Van Winkle and Dr. Pancho Romero.

 

Sham began his career in the Gadsden Independent School District where he was Director of Bands at the newly built Chaparral High School for 4 years; while there he developed and guided the newly founded band to 3 years of straight 1stDivision ratings and placed 4thin District 4A at the New Mexico Activities Association State Band Contest in Albuquerque.  

 

Sham then served as the Director of Bands of Alamogordo High School in Alamogordo, NM.  While at AHS he directed the Wind Ensemble, Jazz II, and Co-directed the AHS Tiger Marching Band.  Sham has led the AHS Wind Ensemble to 7 straight 1stdivision Ratings and 3 state runner-up championships at the NMAA State Band Contest.

 

Sham is an active member of the New Mexico Music Educators Association (NMMEA); he held office for the Southwest District as Band Vice President, and then as President. Sham is also a member of the National Association for Music Educators (NAfME) and the National Association for Jazz Educators (NAJE).  Sham plays the trumpet with the Mesilla Valley Concert Band, the Rio Brass Quintet, the Alamogordo Music Theater, the Otero Jazz Orchestra, the Mesilla Valley Jazz Orchestra, and the Big Band on the Rio Grande.

 

Sham is married to his lovely wife, Marissa Al-Masoud, who is the band director at Chaparral Middle School in Chaparral, NM. Sham instills dedication, commitment, and the tradition of excellence in his bands.
