OMAR A. CORDOVA, B.A

Athletic Bands Graduate Assistant

Omar Arturo Cordova is currently pursuing his Master's of Music in Instrumental Conducting under the direction of Dr.Genevro at The University of Texas at El Paso, where he serves as the Athletic Bands Graduate Assistant. He also earned his Bachelor's Degree in Music Education in the Spring of 2018 at UTEP where he was taught under trumpet professor, Nancy Taylor.

During his time at UTEP, Omar has performed with the Wind Symphony, the Symphony Band, the Concert Band, the Jazz I and Jazz II Bands, the Symphony Orchestra, Mariachi Los Mineros, and the Marching Miner Regiment. He has also performed with brass chambers and the Early Music Ensemble at UTEP, the University Chorus, the offstage trumpet section for the El Paso Winds, and is the principal trumpet player and guest conductor for the Gilbert & Sullivan Company of El Paso Summer Orchestra.

Omar marched with The Academy Drum and Bugle Corps, based in Tempe, AZ, for three years (2013-2015). During his time with The Academy, he performed in many locations around the United States, including the Super Bowl XLIX in Glendale, AZ. In his third and final year, he served as the trumpet section leader and was awarded the Most Outstanding Brass Member Award. Following this period of time, he has worked with several high school marching bands.

 

Omar assists with the Marching Miners and the UTEP Pep Band, and he conducts the Concert Band as part of his graduate studies. He is a member of the Kappa Kappa Psi Honorary Band Fraternity.
